Retro Sketch 99 - You are my Sunshine

Just dropping by to share a card I made for this weeks Retro Sketch No 99 Challenge.

So firstly here is the sketch from the Retro Girls -

And this is the card I created:

For my card I have made a few changes to the sketch - I have created a regular 4"x 6" card rather than the square, moved the sentiment and added a tab.

I used one of my new favourite paper pads for this project - Kaisercraft Confetti and my latest absolute favourite die from MFT - their Feathers and Arrows die.

Most of the embellished pieces were made from the paper pad embellishments or from trimming something down from the patterned paper in the pad.  The button was tied with two strands of thread to provide a different look too.  There is a little edge distressing and foam mounting on some elements to add some texture and dimension.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Retro Sketch #95

It's a very busy week for me this week with work, class teaching and designing, Design Team assignments and cards to make for friends/family birthdays.

This week I decided to get some inspiration form the lovely DT over at Retro Sketches.
Here is the sketch they have up this week and you can see their post here.

I have a few male cards to create so here is my "male" take on the sketch:

For this card I used one of my favourite MME paper collections - Stella & Rose.  I just love the teal and mustard colours combined with the greys.   I wanted to create a grungy distressed look so out came the edge distressor and the sand paper.

I sanded the edges of the fish tail banner pieces which I cut free hand.  As I cut them I made sure my cuts overlapped so when I sanded the pieces the cuts became more visible and added to the grunge feel.  I also sanded the rub on that I used.

To add some dimension to the card I mounted the banner pieces and solid stars with foam tape. I also added a hint of sparkle to the solid stars with a gel pen.

Materials Used:
Paper: MME Stella & Rose 6x6 paper pad and basil cardstock
Dies: MFT Stacking Stars
Other: Button MME Hattie "Remember", Twine from Taylored Expressions, Rub on from The Paper Company Personalized by You range.

Thanks for dropping by!

Retro Sketch #40 - Brand New Challenge!

I am so excited this week.  I have been powering through my DT assignments and have finished and uploaded all but 1 of them so stay tuned to see what I have been up to over at the Aussie Scrap Source Blog in the coming weeks.

As a bit of a reward I decided to play along with a sketch challenge - I just love sketch challenges as they kick start your creativity but give you the freedom to create with whatever colours, products and embellishments you like.

The lovely Arielle, who is a fellow iSpy DT member, has an awesome sketch challenge blog.  Retro Sketches  gives you a sketch based on one of the DT's previous creations, they make a new card and then we all follow along.  I have favourite card layouts that I often go back to as I know they work well so I loved the idea of this challenge.

So here is the sketch they posted based on one of Arielle's cards:

And here is the card I created:

Each panel on the card was edge distressed and I gave it a faux stitched border as well.

I have been playing with my Martha punches of late and just love this branch punch for creating wreathes. I used a combination of red, green and blue papers to create it with and then added some pearls. . Instead of a fishtail embellishment I added a lace loop which I tied to a button before adding it to the card. I moved this element a little further out on the card.

Materials:
Paper: MME Be Merry
Punch: MS M230367 Branch
Other: Pearls by Portacraft, buttons, twine, lace (from the stash!) and mini Christmas sticker.

Thanks for stopping by!
