Maja Design Round Card

In my previous post I mentioned I was also making a 90th birthday card so I just popped back to share it with you.

The papers were from Maja Designs Vintage Summer Collection - just love the soft delicate colour palette and the floral papers in this collection.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

Colour Q Challenge - Anniversary Card

Been playing with some new papers and some of my favourite dies today making a card for a 50th Wedding Anniversary and a 90th Birthday.

I always love to play along with the Retro Girls and I have discovered that Ariel from the Retro Team also heads up and designs for Colour Q - a fabulous colour focused challenge blog.  So I decided to paly along with them for my anniversary card.

It just so happened that their challenge this week was focused on valentine/love and some gorgeous pink, kraft and white inspiration - perfect for a wedding anniversary card.

So here is their inspiration:

And this is the card I created:

I love the bold colours in the Colour Q challenge and think they give you a vibrant modern palette to create with.  However, when creating my card I decided to use the most softest of hints of each of the Colour Q colours as I wanted my card to have a shabby chic feel so I picked out a paper selection that contained hints of kraft, pink and white and teamed it up with ivory cardstock and embellishments.  I also inked parts of the card with TH distress ink to bring our more of the kraft colour.  I also added some stitching in ivory thread around the edge of the main circle element and the horizontal banner.

AlsoI have had to change my photography booth around during our house renovations soapologies if my photography and the colouring of the images is a little off.

The papers were from Maja Designs Vintage Summer Basics - I just love this collection!

The embellished sections were created with some MFT die-namics, kaisercraft flowers, MS frond punch, pearls and some tiny stickers which I trimmed down to size. To highlight the 50 I got out my Gel Roll glitter pen and coloured them in.

HB2U with Mojo Monday and Simon Says Stamp

What better way is there to start the New Year's card making than by getting some inspiration from my favourite sketch blog - Mojo Monday???

How about also combining it with a new challenge blog that is featuring MFT products in one of their challenge- Simon Says Stamp!! Wahooo!!!!  So much fun!!!

Now no one has to twist my arm to get our my MFT die-namics but this challenge also got me rummaging through my MFT stamps and button collection as well.

So here are the inspiration challenges I used:

Mojo 326

Simon Says Stamp

This week the challenge is SOMETHING NEW ,,, New Year, New Job, New Baby, New Crafty Stash, New Home, Wedding ( new life) Retirement ( new life) ,, etc ,,,,
We are showcasing My Favorite Things Products this week. You don’t have to use them to join in but if you have some we would love to see them used :-)

And here is the card I created:

I loved the sketch that Julee came up with - I am a round card addict thanks to this talented ladies monthly "round or square" sketch challenges and I love this NEW one.  I have however, replaced the fishtail banner section with a bow.

My something NEW for this card comprised of three things, MFT buttons, MFT stamps and a paper pad from my stash that I have never used before.

The papers are from Echo Parks Times and Season's 2 collection and the colour palette is a NEW challenge for me as I often opt for the soft pastel florally pinks.  This collection got me playing with stronger colours such as deep red and navy.

Whilst the MFT Dainty Bows die is not all that new to my collection on this card I decided to layer up the two different sized bows in the set and this was something NEW for me to try - and I love the effect!

The buttons on the bottom of the tag were from my NEWly acquired MFT button packs - just love them as you get so many different styles of buttons in each set.

The other MFT dies on the card were some of my favs as well - mini doily and a butterfly which I layered up.

Deconstucted Sketch Challenge 131

With Christmas over and the house and routine beginning to return to normal I have been tidying up the craft room ready to move from Christmas mode back into general card making mode and I have also been visiting some of my favourite sketch sites and designers blogs to get the creative mojo happening.

I was very excited to discover that one of the talented card makers blogs that I love to visit -  Jen Shults @ Deconstructing Jen has a sketch challenge this week based on a round sketch - DS131 and you know how much I LOVE a round card.  Sooooo I just had to make some time to play along.

Here is the fabulous sketch:

Thanks for the inspiration Jen! This is the card I created:

For this card I used my favourite Spellbinders Scallop Circle Round Grand Nestabilities die to create the card base.

The patterned papers were from Echo Parks - Beautiful Life collection.

The style is a little cleaner than usual as I resisted the urge to pick up my edge distressor and ink pad for this card. I decided to add a leaf wreath to the circular component of the card and add a bow and button through the middle of the card too.
The wreath die, rolled roses and oval doily were all MFT die-namics dies.

Thanks for stopping by!

Mojo Monday 321 - Round or Square?

Just wanted to share a card I created for the latest Mojo Monday Challenge - no 321.  It's always round or square week the last week of the month with the Mojo Team and of course I had no difficulty in choosing to go round.  Just love making round cards as I think I may have said a few times already.

So here is the sketch from the inspirational Julee Tilman

And here is the card I created

The base of the card was created with a Spellbinders Grand Nestablity Scallop Circle die and I used some cream Bazzil cardstock.

The rest of the card was created using one of my favourite Christmas 6x6 paper pads - MME Be Merry.

For the central strips I decided to use fishtail banners and then I toped this off with a wreath to add the circular element.

The wreath was created using MFT stamps Winter Wreath Die-namics die which I cut twice out of two shades of taupe cardstock.  I then topped it with a bow, buttons and leaves.  The leaves were made by dissecting a punched Marth Stewart Glacial Snowflake.  The tips of the snowflake were the perfect size to team up with the miniature buttons.

The greeting was cut using the MFT Stamps Notched Tag die-namics die (one of my favs) and the Merry Christmas greeting was a sticker.

All the pieces were inked using Tim Holtz Tea Die distress ink - my all time go to fav product to tie project pieces together.

I had so much fun playing along with the sketch challenge.  Thanks to the Mojo DT for their inspirations and to all the other cardies who play along too.  Thanks also to you for stopping by!

Scrapmatts Guest Designer - June and July 2013

I am so very excited and extremely honoured to be the next Guest Design Team member over at at Scrapmatts.  I was so excited when I was asked to be a Guest Designer.  I fell in love with Scrapmatts products about 2 years ago at a Melbourne paper crafting event and love using them to add some added detail and dimension to my creations.  Over the next two months I am really looking forward to sharing some of my card and OTP creations with you using my favourite Scrapmatts products and some of their new June release items too.

This first card was inspired by the Ornate Frames set.  I love making round cards and the doily border from this collection made the perfect edging for the card. The papers were from MME Collectable Unforgettable 6x6 paper pad and Authentique’s Strong Collection – Clever 12x12 paper.

I love to edge distress and re-ink my edges so I did this to all the paper elements added to the card.  The stitching was done by hand to further add to the shabby chic feel of the card.  I added some of the co-ordinating border from the Ornate Frames set, green inked leaf sprays, a button and sentiments and the enjoy life mini tag from CB1209 Scrap Words 12 which is NEW for June!  I love the coloured finish on the pieces and as they matched the papers I selected I decided use most of them straight from the packet making card making process quicker.

CB1190 Scrap Words 02
CB1209 Scrap Words 12 (NEW)
CB1193 Sewing 01
CB1146 Leafy Spray 01

For this card I used two of the tags as my card base.  I covered the tag with paper and sanded the edges before applying distress ink to give it the shabby chic look.  The papers were from the same collections that I used for my round card.  I happened to have a doily die that was very similar to the ornate frames set so I used that as a background for the butterfly and sentiment.  The butterfly was used raw and I added some liquid glitter.  To add some extra detail I incorporated a ruler and ornate frame set border with buttons from my stash and hand cut fishtail banner pieces.  Scrapmatts are so easy to trim, alter and mix and match!

I really like to think of different ways to finish or alter the chipboard I am using that way I can use the same product but give it a different look each time.  For this card I did just that with a few of the elements.  I absolutely love banners/flags and the fishtail flag pieces I used on this card were so much fun to play with.  I covered them with paper, sanded then inked the edges.  The cute little rose leaves were from the new June release.  I trimmed the rose sprays to remove the flowers then inked up the leaves.   The Happy Birthday sentiment was inked and the butterfly was inked and glittered.  This time I used the ornate frame border but added some pearls.
