Scrapmatts Guest Designer - Christmas in July

It was my turn to post again over at Scrapmatts so as promised here is a corresponding post with some additional pics.

Wow I can’t believe it’s the middle of July already …… time flies when you are playing with Scrapmatts goodies.   I really love the Scrapmatts Christmas themed pieces so for this post I decided to create some “Christmas in July” projects.  Keeping in mind it’s cold and chilly in Melbourne I decided to include some of the snowflakes on my projects as well as using papers with a cool wintery feel to them.

Gift Box  – Merry Christmas

You know when you have a creative vision and you start playing and your project just takes on a whole new direction?? Well believe it or not this little angel made from the sewing inspired collection initially was going to be an angel card.  As I began to make it I just decided it would be more fun to make a decorative gift box that can also double as a Christmas decoration/ornament.

The wings are painted and glittered and the backing piece was covered with patterned paper.  I then placed them in between the two dress form pieces.  The bodice of the dress form was punched from a Martha Stewart heart punch which gave you the perfect neckline to add bling to.

The box was painted and papered then I added some of the other sewing set pieces to finish it all off.

Card – Merry Christmas Window (double)

We lived and worked for two years in the US and one of my fondest memories was spotting a red cardinal outside our family room window one snowy morning just after Christmas.  This memory inspired me to make this card.  The tiny little bird was inked and the frames were painted and used as the window.  The Merry Christmas sentiment was also painted.

The fronds were punched with a Martha Stewart punch.

Tag – Merry Christmas Window

I love the versatility of the ornate frames in the Scrapmatts collection.  This tag features the single square frame (which I used as another window) in the white coloured chipboard along with the inked Merry Christmas sentiment piece.  I couldn’t resist adding some of my rolled flowers and the green inked leafy spay Scrapmatts chipboard were tucked in behind them with some punched fronds.  I love the way you can layer the Scrapmatts chipboard with punched leaves to give some texture and depth to a project.

Card – Snowflakes

Even though there is never a white Christmas in Australia I still love the cards you can create with wintery feel.  More often than not our American friends are the recipients of these cards that I create.  I love how the snowflakes that Scrapmatts have are just so delicate and intricately cut and the one that I chose for this card was white and I just added some liquid glitter to it.  Each snowflake on the patterned paper was also trimmed with a miniature rhinestone to add to the frosty feel.  Couldn’t resist adding some of my favourite border pieces as well.

June & July Classes at Scrappy Hollow

Thank you to everyone who came to my classes this week. It was so lovely to see everyone again and to watch you make this months cards.  I love teaching and thank you all for supporting me by attending class.  Here is what we made!

These cards were designed with the little girl/young teen in mind.

For the first card we created a mini pinwheel and a ledge styled fold to attach the pinwheel to the card.

This second card had lots of layering and the blue label piece opened on the front of the card so you could add a sentiment.

After working frantically on the first two cards the little gift pocket and last card came together quite quickly.

The papers were My Minds Eye - My Girl and we used the 6x6 paper pad for the projects.  Teaming this paper up with seam binding and ivory card stock made sure all the colours came to life.

New Year Mojo with MOJO274

Hello and welcome to my first post for the year!  Happy New Year to you all and may 2013 bring you all good health and happiness.

To kick off the new year I decided to play along with my absolute favourite sketch challenge blog - Mojo Monday.  I just love the sketches they inspire us with and MOJO 274 just happened to be round or square.  So here is the sketch:

And this is my card:

One of the privileges of being part of the Aussie Scrap Source DT is that I get to select and play with some absolutely divine papers and embellishments.  The Basic Grey Lucille Collection is one range I have been designing with and loving.  I have produced a Retailer Class with this collection and just had to use up some of the remaining papers for this card.

This birds eye view shows the hand pieced border of the card which I created with an MFT die.  I attached them to the back of the card front and then covered that with another circle on the back to keep everything secure and looking neat.

This card is for an 80th Birthday so I added an extra tag to the seam binding bow. I have added some hand stitching using vintage thread around the main circular piece of the card.

The flowers and butterflies were made with the co-ordinating papers from the collection.  I love the colour palette - so different from what I usually fall in love with.

Materials:

Paper - Basic Grey Lucille
Dies - MFT Rounded Banner, Dog Tag, Royal Rose and Mini Royal Roses and Spellbinders Lacey Circles
Punches - Martha Stewart branch and frond
Other - Prima button, Pebble Inc Rub On, seam binding, Kaisercraft pearls,  vintage sewing thread.

So thanks for stopping by!

2012 A Year in Review!

With 2012 rapidly coming to a close I thought I would post some of the creations/cards I have made this year.  For this first post I have some to share from January through to April.

January 2012 - MOJO 224

I loved this MOJO sketch (but then again I love them all!!!) and working with the Martha Stewart papers.

February 2012 - MOJO 227

Feb was a hugely exciting month for me as I was made a MOJO Sketch Champion for the first time!!!

Here is the announcement post here

And this is the card I created

I framed this card and have it on the shelf in my craft studio.  I was so honoured and proud to have been given this award.

March 2012 - Cards at Scrappy Hollow

I absolutely LOVE teaching cards classes at Scrappy Hollow.  Sharing my passion and papercrafting discoveries is what it's all about for me.  Seeing the ladies in class finish a card of which they are both happy with and proud of makes my heart sing!

In March the demand for my classes was overwhelming, waiting lists, bookings for the whole year etc etc.  I am so honoured and very grateful to the ladies who supported me by coming to class.  I have made some lovely friends through the classes which I treasure as well.

Here is my March Class cards:

April 2012 - CR84FN Colour Challenges

Sketch challenges are so much fun and this month I also discovered how much fun colour challenges can be as well.  The talented Mona Pendleton - whom I admire GREATLY- runs this challenge and I played along.  Here is the card I made and you can see the original post here

So there you have it - the first 4 months of 2012 in review.  Stay tuned as I will post more reviews in the next few days and also give you an insight into my plans for 2013.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Gettin My Mojo Happening With MOJO273!

WOW what an amazing Christmas I have had.  I am so lucky to have been able to celebrate and spend the day with my family and special friends.  Boxing Day in our house is always a relaxing day, so after a little bit of Boxing Day shopping I have sat down to spend some time playing in the craft studio.

I absolutely love designing for the DT's I am part of and for my classes at Scrappy Hollow but with all my assignments done I found today was a day I could just "play" with whatever I wanted.

Having not played along with many challenges of late I immediately headed over to Mojo Monday and found their latest sketch challenge to play along with.

One of my all time favourite card makers - Teresa Kline from the Mojo DT designed this sketch:

And here is the card I created:

I love Simple Stories papers and the Summer Fresh collection is a fave.  I like the country feel and I teams it up with some MME and October Afternoon patterned papers as well.

The doily was cut with a denim paper from the MME On The Bright Side collection and the blue worked well with the floral paper from the SS collection.  Of course I had to include a butterfly and rolled flower.  The MFT Royal Rose would have to be my favourite find of 2012.

Materials Used:

Papers:
MME On The Bright Side 6x6 paper pad
Simple Stories Summer Fresh 6x6 paper pad
October Afternoon Ring Around the Rosie 12x12 sheet

EK Large Punch - Butterfly
MS punch Med Branch
