June & July Classes at Scrappy Hollow

Thank you to everyone who came to my classes this week. It was so lovely to see everyone again and to watch you make this months cards.  I love teaching and thank you all for supporting me by attending class.  Here is what we made!

These cards were designed with the little girl/young teen in mind.

For the first card we created a mini pinwheel and a ledge styled fold to attach the pinwheel to the card.

This second card had lots of layering and the blue label piece opened on the front of the card so you could add a sentiment.

After working frantically on the first two cards the little gift pocket and last card came together quite quickly.

The papers were My Minds Eye - My Girl and we used the 6x6 paper pad for the projects.  Teaming this paper up with seam binding and ivory card stock made sure all the colours came to life.

Scrapmatts GDT

Just wanted to share a few more cards that I have been making with some of my favourite Scrapmatts pieces and some of the divine new June release items.

Make a Wish

I have to admit I just love butterflies and usually sneak one onto many of the cards I create!  I particularly like the CB1158 Butterflies 20 set as you get a multitude of butterflies in many sizes which are just so much fun to use on smaller scaled cards.  Here I used three different sized butterflies to give the illusion of them flying off into the distance as the recipient “makes their wish”.   The butterflies were white and I coloured them with a gold glitter gel pen.   The inked leafy sprays were trimmed down and teamed up with some of my die cut rolled flowers. I decorated some of those very cute fishtail flags and trimmed the outer two down to make narrower pieces.   The “make a wish” sentiment was altered with an adhesive eraser – I just simply used it to lighten up the surface.

Gears for the Boys!

I just knew I had to play with the awesome mini gears to make these two male/boy inspired cards.
I coloured the cogs with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink then coted them with the matching distress embossing powder to give them a grungy rusted look.  The little robot was made by hand from scraps and the hands, feet and mouth were cogs cut in half.  The chevron pieces were inked with a versa colour ink pad.  I just love these new chevrons there are so many different ways you can use them! For this card I decided to use all the different sizes in a row.

Happy Travels

This month Scrapmatts are releasing some very cute travel inspired scrap words. I love how some are pre made on little tags as they are just perfect to go straight onto projects.  I have tied these mini tags onto the card with hemp twine to form a little banner of sentiments then teamed it up with some of the black Scrap Words 09.

Scrapmatts Guest Designer - June and July 2013

I am so very excited and extremely honoured to be the next Guest Design Team member over at at Scrapmatts.  I was so excited when I was asked to be a Guest Designer.  I fell in love with Scrapmatts products about 2 years ago at a Melbourne paper crafting event and love using them to add some added detail and dimension to my creations.  Over the next two months I am really looking forward to sharing some of my card and OTP creations with you using my favourite Scrapmatts products and some of their new June release items too.

This first card was inspired by the Ornate Frames set.  I love making round cards and the doily border from this collection made the perfect edging for the card. The papers were from MME Collectable Unforgettable 6x6 paper pad and Authentique’s Strong Collection – Clever 12x12 paper.

I love to edge distress and re-ink my edges so I did this to all the paper elements added to the card.  The stitching was done by hand to further add to the shabby chic feel of the card.  I added some of the co-ordinating border from the Ornate Frames set, green inked leaf sprays, a button and sentiments and the enjoy life mini tag from CB1209 Scrap Words 12 which is NEW for June!  I love the coloured finish on the pieces and as they matched the papers I selected I decided use most of them straight from the packet making card making process quicker.

CB1146 Leafy Spray 01

For this card I used two of the tags as my card base.  I covered the tag with paper and sanded the edges before applying distress ink to give it the shabby chic look.  The papers were from the same collections that I used for my round card.  I happened to have a doily die that was very similar to the ornate frames set so I used that as a background for the butterfly and sentiment.  The butterfly was used raw and I added some liquid glitter.  To add some extra detail I incorporated a ruler and ornate frame set border with buttons from my stash and hand cut fishtail banner pieces.  Scrapmatts are so easy to trim, alter and mix and match!

I really like to think of different ways to finish or alter the chipboard I am using that way I can use the same product but give it a different look each time.  For this card I did just that with a few of the elements.  I absolutely love banners/flags and the fishtail flag pieces I used on this card were so much fun to play with.  I covered them with paper, sanded then inked the edges.  The cute little rose leaves were from the new June release.  I trimmed the rose sprays to remove the flowers then inked up the leaves.   The Happy Birthday sentiment was inked and the butterfly was inked and glittered.  This time I used the ornate frame border but added some pearls.
