Scrapmatts Guest Designer - Christmas in July

It was my turn to post again over at Scrapmatts so as promised here is a corresponding post with some additional pics.

Wow I can’t believe it’s the middle of July already …… time flies when you are playing with Scrapmatts goodies.   I really love the Scrapmatts Christmas themed pieces so for this post I decided to create some “Christmas in July” projects.  Keeping in mind it’s cold and chilly in Melbourne I decided to include some of the snowflakes on my projects as well as using papers with a cool wintery feel to them.

Gift Box  – Merry Christmas

You know when you have a creative vision and you start playing and your project just takes on a whole new direction?? Well believe it or not this little angel made from the sewing inspired collection initially was going to be an angel card.  As I began to make it I just decided it would be more fun to make a decorative gift box that can also double as a Christmas decoration/ornament.

The wings are painted and glittered and the backing piece was covered with patterned paper.  I then placed them in between the two dress form pieces.  The bodice of the dress form was punched from a Martha Stewart heart punch which gave you the perfect neckline to add bling to.

The box was painted and papered then I added some of the other sewing set pieces to finish it all off.

Card – Merry Christmas Window (double)

We lived and worked for two years in the US and one of my fondest memories was spotting a red cardinal outside our family room window one snowy morning just after Christmas.  This memory inspired me to make this card.  The tiny little bird was inked and the frames were painted and used as the window.  The Merry Christmas sentiment was also painted.

The fronds were punched with a Martha Stewart punch.

Tag – Merry Christmas Window

I love the versatility of the ornate frames in the Scrapmatts collection.  This tag features the single square frame (which I used as another window) in the white coloured chipboard along with the inked Merry Christmas sentiment piece.  I couldn’t resist adding some of my rolled flowers and the green inked leafy spay Scrapmatts chipboard were tucked in behind them with some punched fronds.  I love the way you can layer the Scrapmatts chipboard with punched leaves to give some texture and depth to a project.

Card – Snowflakes

Even though there is never a white Christmas in Australia I still love the cards you can create with wintery feel.  More often than not our American friends are the recipients of these cards that I create.  I love how the snowflakes that Scrapmatts have are just so delicate and intricately cut and the one that I chose for this card was white and I just added some liquid glitter to it.  Each snowflake on the patterned paper was also trimmed with a miniature rhinestone to add to the frosty feel.  Couldn’t resist adding some of my favourite border pieces as well.

Scrapmatts Guest Design Team July Creations!

Just wanted to share some of my creations as a Guest DT member  with Scrapmatts for July.  I am really enjoying playing with the new June release items and also using some of my favourites in new ways.  As promised over on their blog I am also uploading some close up photos of the elements on each card.  So here’s what I have created so far.

Card 1 - Baby Girl

This round card was so much fun to create and I loved being able to use some of the smaller Scrapmatts chipboard to add the finer details to this card.  All the chipboard pieces were inked, heat set and then I applied some glitter pen to each item to add a finishing touch.  The papers were from the Carta Bella Cool Summer collection and I just love the colours.

The flower was from Green Tara and I used the MFT Mini Doily die for the background.  I hand cut the fishtail banners.  Some hand stitching around the card helped to frame it.  The card was cut with Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities - Scallop Circles.

I love mixing up the fonts on my cards and here is used some Quikutz and MFT alphabet dies to create my sentiment.  I used a glitter pen and white pen to add some details to the sentiment.

Card 2 – Buttons

This card has two of my favourite things - buttons and butterflies.  I took inspiration from a card I taight in a class at Scrappy Hollow and just love the button card element.  I have discovered some stamps that allow you to create your own button cards so I am itching to start creating with them too!

All the buttons and scrap word banner were inked and glittered, the butterfly was covered with paper, sanded and inked.

To highlight the cute buttons further I incorporated a crochet doily and punched shapes.  There is some hand stitching around the button card. I also used foam tape behind the button card and under the heart and flower to add some dimension to the card. The new June release tag was a quick and easy way to add a sentiment.
The papers were from Basic Grey - Mint Julep and Echo Park - This and That.

Card 3 – UR Sew Special

This is probably my favourite card I created for my July 1st post.  This card has many elements/layers containing some of my favourite sewing themed Scrapmatts items starting with the tag in the vellum envelope, then the layered front panel on the front envelope and finally the ruler tucked under the envelope on the front of the card base. I also used foam tape on some of the layered elements to add some definition.

I decided to use all the sewing elements raw and just simply inked them with distress ink to tie them in with the papers a little. The sewing spool tag was covered with paper, sanded and inked.

The hearts were die cut with the MFT Hearts a Plenty die. The little cotton reels were finished off with some hemp twine and DMC thread.  Each button was finished in a different way – knot behind, bow behind and knot on the front.  I cant add a button to a project without having threaded it.

My sentiment may be a little corny but I just loved the play on words and had to use it.

The lace, seam binding, hemp twine and pinking sheared squares also added to the haberdashery/sewing theme.

The papers were from Mint Julep by Basic Grey and Authentique's Strong Collection.
